It's time again to mark your calendars for the El
Presidio Historic 1900 Festival & Neighborhood Open
House. El Presidio Historic Preservation Commission,
Inc (EPHPC) sponsors this annual Festival. We invite
you to journey back in time capturing Tucson as it was in
1900. Horse drawn carriages and a horse drawn trolley
will provide complimentary rides to all Festival
guests. Live music
from the period, performed by several local groups and
artists, will grace the neighborhood's nooks and
crannies.
The Tucson Rodeo Parade Museum will be displaying
horse-drawn vehicles from their museum, and the Tucson
Police Department (Paddy Wagon), Tucson Fire Department
(Hose Carts), and Tucson Electric Power (Cable Wagon) will
be showcasing their historic vehicles. Needlepoint and
quilting demonstrations, old time cameras, photos, vehicles,
shoe shine stand, schoolroom, and much more will all be part
of the day's activities.
With the purchase of a $15.00 Ticket, guests will be able
to visit 14 significant properties within the El Presidio
historic neighborhood. There will be historic home
sites of some of Tucson's most famous pioneers, Tucson's
first birthing center "The Stork's Nest", and two
treasured museums, the Corbett and Cordova Houses. The
Festival is showcasing homes where the residents both live
and work.
Five Café's will be set up in the neighborhood and will
feature unique cuisine from our locally owned
restaurants. The Street Café choices include
old-fashioned BBQ, southwestern eclectic, all American hot
dogs & hamburgers, and festive ethnic selections.
El Presidio's participating Cafés include: Art's
BBQ, El Charro, La Cocina, P.J's Café, and The
Manning House. Plan on coming hungry!
The Manning House will be hosting a Southwestern Author's
Book Signing and an incredible Artist's Exhibit, as well as
a slide show and presentation on Tucson's history, provided
by local historian, Ken Scoville (11:00 am, 1:00 pm &
3:00 pm). On stage at The Manning
House will be musical entertainment throughout the
day.
El Charro Café will also be hosting live music throughout the
event. Plan on enjoying a whole day of entertainment and
fun, but don't tell anyone how educational the experience is
. . . they just won't believe you!

The proceeds earned from this event
will be used to construct and sponsor a community
wide not-for-profit web site, www.TucsonHistory.com,
designed to capture all of Tucson's colorful history
including its pioneers, architecture, culture, oral
histories, community links, and neighborhood events.
Supporting Tucson's historic preservation is EPHPC's
only mission. |
